Cubs vs Diamondbacks 2/25/25
Cubs beat the Diamondbacks today 4-2, the Cubs were down 2-0 going into the bottom of the 5th when a comeback was sparked by Carson Kelly’s solo homerun and a Vidal Brujan homerun.
Jameson Taillon made his first start of the spring going 2 innings striking out 2 and giving up one homerun, he looked fantastic with the exception of the one mistake, Ryan Braiser also made his spring debut he looked fantastic as well pitching one inning giving up no hits and striking out 1. Cody Poteet was back out there again today, Cody’s command seemed a bit off and needs some work but I think he will be ok and possibly a good bullpen arm. Eli Morgan came out in the 8th and looked great striking out 2 batters everything looked good on his part, he will be a good bullpen arm for us. Phil Bickford closed out the game in the 9th and looked good, I am hoping for a bounce back year from him
The lineup included quite a few regular starters for the Cubs including Ian Happ, Kyle Tucker, Seiya Suzuki, Dansby Swanson and PCA. Happ had 1 hit, Tuckers plate discipline looked really good he had 3 walks, while Suzuki and Swanson combined to go 0 for 6. Pca struck out twice but provided some excitement with his one hit stealing 2nd and scoring on an overthrown ball. Carson Kelly got things going for the Cubs when he hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the 5th, and rule 5 draft player Gage Workman had a hit in his one at bat.
Overall the Cubs have been so much fun to watch so far this spring training, even though it doesn’t count for anything being 6-0 I think says alot about our starters and our prospects and depth, the Cubs play the Giants tomorrow with Imanaga making his spring debut
